Who is your future self?

Do you know that person?

In both my High Achievers Mindset Secrets program and The Confident Athlete Program I have an exercise that you go through after we’ve established your clearly defined goals. The exercise is to create your Vivid Vision.

What I ask you to do is to look at the goals that you’ve created and in as much detail as possible, describe your life 5, 10, or even 15 years from now. I want you to be able to vividly see your future self and the life you are living.

When you have a clear view of your future self, it has a direct impact on how you feel right now. It will give you a boost of optimism and excitement for what’s to come. It helps to give purpose and meaning to your life now and motivates you to achieve the goals that you’ve set for yourself.

In both of my courses we spend a lot of time focused on the growth mindset versus the fixed mindset. I show you the advantages of having a growth mindset and how to transition there from a fixed mindset. Psychologist, Carol Dweck, says that people who have a growth mindset clear on their future and are more defined by their future self than their current self. But those with a fixed mindset believe who they are now is permanent and that is who they will always be.

Dr. Benjamin Hardy has a great book on this topic called, “Personality Isn’t Permanent.” I wrote about this book in “Who You Become Is a Choice.”

Look at who you were in the past. You’ve come a long way. What were your goals 5 years ago? How many of those goals are you living today? Reflect on your past and appreciate where you are today. What would you tell yourself if you could go back and talk to that person 5 years ago?

You’re going to continue to progress and achieve your goals. You will be a much different person in 5 years from now. What would your future self say to you right now?

You must have clearly defined, written down goals.

You must have a path to take to achieve your goals.

You must have the confidence in yourself that you will achieve those goals.

This is a big part of all my courses, because without these things in place… Where are you going?

Once you have your clearly defined goals, take the time to write your Vivid Vision for each one. Go into as much detail as you possibly can. Feel what it’s like to be there. Feel what it’s like to be your future self.

Once you’ve created this vivid vision of your best future self, believe that this is who you are going to become. Identify with your future self and start to behave and live as that person. Make decisions as your future self. Become that person now.

Be… then do… then have…
