People who fail at achieving their goals often use a lack of willpower as an excuse.

The problem here is that if it comes down to willpower determining your success or failure, there’s a lot more to the story.

If you’re depending on willpower, there are a few factors to consider:

  • You don’t truly know what you want in life.
  • Your purpose, your ‘why’, for your goals isn’t strong enough.
  • You haven’t committed to your goal.
  • Your environment doesn’t support your goal.

Begin by creating your clearly identified, written out goals and figure out your ‘why’ for each goal! (You can do this at:

  • Commit to your success
  • Set a timeline (reverse engineer your goals so you know what you have to accomplish monthly, weekly, daily…)
  • Get a coach or mentor to hold you accountable.
  • Put yourself in an environment to succeed. Remove anything from your environment that won’t help you to reach your goals.

You are who you are because of your environment. If you want to change, then change your environment.

Put yourself in an environment that will give you all the opportunities that you need to succeed.

Dr. Benjamin Hardy says, “You design your worldview by proactively shaping your external inputs, such as the information you consume, the people you surround yourself with, the places you go, and the experiences you have…

Your life is the product of your thoughts and choices, as many self-help books explain. But where do those thoughts and choices come from? They don’t self-generate out of nowhere. You shape the garden of your mind by planting specific things from your environment, such as the books you read, experiences you have, and people you surround yourself with.”

If you really want to be successful in achieving your goals, put yourself in an environment that will make your success inevitable.
