Focused and Intentional Practice

“It’s not necessarily the amount of time you spend at practice that counts; it’s what you put into practice.”

Eric Lindros

Daily Success Strategies Episode 310: Why You Need Focused and Intentional Practice

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

I was recently having a conversation with one of the athletes in The Confident Athlete Program about the importance of intentional practice.

To reach your full potential as an athlete, an entrepreneur, or anything else you’re trying to succeed at, intentional practice is a very important factor in achieving your goals.

I have seen it with clients, and I’ve especially seen it as a basketball coach. I’ve watched many practices in which players show up at the last minute and spend the next two hours just going through the motions. They are there because they have to be. They’re not there with the focused intention of becoming better. They’re not there because they are working towards their goal.

Whether you’re an athlete wanting to excel at your sport, or an entrepreneur building your business, what do you put into your practice and preparation?

Do you put everything into it that you can?

Are you focused and intentional in your practices?

Are you just going through the motions, or are you really engaged and focused on improving, working towards your goal?

The more engaged and focused you are, the better your chance of improving and being prepared for game time.

What are you doing to set yourself apart? Are you doing more than required?

As an entrepreneur, are you studying your numbers? Do you know the market and your competitors? Are you working on your own personal development? Are you analyzing and tracking what is and what isn’t working in your business?

As an athlete, are you putting in the extra work? Are you focused and intentional in your extra work? Are you studying film? Are you weight training? Are you a student of your game?

These are the things that not only improve your skills and abilities, but they will also improve your confidence.

World Champion Calf Roper, Tyson Durfey, told me that he developed his confidence through practice. He put in more work than anyone he was competing against. He said, “I felt like I actually deserved it more than my competitors.”

When you’ve put in the work. When you’ve practiced with focus and intention. When you’re a student of your sport or business, you can’t help but be confident.

Don’t just go through the motions because you have to. Make your practices count. You should be working to get better every single day. If your goals are really important to you and you really want to achieve them, get to work and make your effort count.

Building Confidence Through Self-Talk

“Make sure your own worst enemy is not living between your own two ears.”

Laird Hamilton

Daily Success Strategies Episode 308: Building Confidence Through Self-Talk

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

As you work to build your confidence, begin with your self-talk.

Any time you are thinking about something, you’re talking to yourself, that’s your self-talk and it has a big impact on your life.

Your self-talk is a determining factor in your confidence. What you say to yourself influences what you think and how you feel. If your self-talk is positive, your thoughts and feelings will also be positive. It’s almost impossible to think and feel negatively, when you’re talking positively to yourself.

The most important thing that will allow you to influence your self-talk is recognizing it.

Most of our self-talk is in the form of asking and answering questions in our mind.

It’s not realistic to think you will always think positive. But if you are in the habit of recognizing your self-talk, you can change it when it gets negative.

Since most of our self-talk is asking and answering questions in our mind, as we become more aware of our own self-talk, we can change the habitual questions we ask ourself to influence our thoughts, feelings, and confidence

We literally become what we think about. Our lives follow the direction of our most dominating thoughts.

Therefore, the more you focus on positive, productive, and successful thoughts, the more confident you will be in your life.

This Is Good

“Nothing Is Good or Bad in Life Until We Decide It Is.”

Tami Matheny

Daily Success Strategies Episode 305: Why Perspective Matters

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

My friend, Tami Matheny, wrote a great book, The Confident Athlete: 4 Easy Steps to Build and Maintain Confidence.

Her book is full of incredible value!

I’m always telling people that I work with to change their perspective on life. For everything they experience in life, they need to look at it as, “life is happening for me, rather than to me.”

When it comes to perspective, Tami shares a great story in her book. She says, “This is good. This phrase is my motto in my own life. I have learned that “nothing is good or bad until we decide it is.” The power is in learning to focus on what is good in a situation. This is best illustrated in one of my favorite stories:”

A story is told of an African king who had a close friend with whom he grew up. The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that occurred in his life (positive or negative) and remarking, “This is good!” Because of this, the king took his friend with him wherever he went.

One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition. As they went along the friend would load and prepare the guns for the king. the friend had apparently done something wrong in preparing one of the guns, for after taking the gun from his friend, the king fired it and his thumb was blown off. Examining the situation, the friend remarked as usual, “This is good!” to which the king replied, “No, this is NOT god!” and angrily sent his friend to jail.

About a year later, the king was with his hunting party when they were captured by a band of cannibals. the cannibals began to kill and eat the hunting party one by one. However, when the cannibals got to the king they realized he was missing a thumb. Being superstitious, they never ate anyone who was missing a body part and so, untying the king, they sent him on his way.

The king rushed to the jail where his friend was imprisoned and exclaimed, “You saved my life! Thank you, thank you.” To which his friend replied, “This is good!”

“Yes, this is good for me, but I am sorry for sending you to jail” the king responded. “No,” his friend replied, “This is good!”

“What do you mean?” asked the king. “How is it good that I sent you to jail for a year?”

“If I had NOT been in jail, I would have been with you and been eaten by the cannibals.” (Author unknown)

Regardless of what happens in life, we have the opportunity to choose our perspective. During your times of adversity, learn to find the positive. Life is happening FOR you, not TO you!

This Is Good!

Exponentially Multiply Your Results

“You don’t become what you want.

You become what you believe.”

Oprah Winfrey

Daily Success Strategies Episode 307: How to Exponentially Multiply Your Results

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

What are you capable of achieving?

How fast can you do it?

Most people have self-imposed limits that are holding them back from achieving what they are capable of and at the speed that is truly possible.

You are capable of taking your performance to another level and achieving results that are hard for you to imagine.

You’ve seen people do this?

I watched a young girl start a new Instagram account during the pandemic. With great content she quickly grew a following. Five months after she started her account, she offered her first product for $35 and quickly generated over $40,000!

What do you need to do to accelerate your success?

Trying harder at what you’re currently doing isn’t necessarily how you are going to achieve more. In fact, sometimes trying harder just causes more of a problem

Begin by focusing on your possibilities rather than your limiting beliefs and the problems that are in your way.

Be willing to step out of your comfort zone both physically and mentally. Stop being limited by what you think is possible and what you are capable of. Don’t limit yourself to what you think you can have and focus on what it is that you really want.

Be crystal-clear on what it is you want to accomplish.

Give yourself permission to dream and believe.

Be willing to take some risks. If you’re not facing any discomfort and anxiety, you’re not stepping out of your comfort zone and taking enough risk.

Olga Dewar

Olga Dewar calls Ottawa, Canada her home. She is originally from Moscow, Russia and has been living in Canada since 1995. She is one of the happiest people in the world, yes almost all of the time.

She is a lover of life; lover of nature and everything alive. She is a forager, if you cannot find her, she is most likely in the forest looking for mushrooms, berries or getting lost in the beauty of His Majesty the Forest and hugs of Mother Nature. She is a fitness and healthy lifestyle enthusiast. She is a practitioner of chemical free living and a spiritual being – OMMMMMMM.

She loves new beginnings, creating and executing. IShe loves helping, learning, educating, and sharing.

She loves people, even the grumpy ones – we all have bad days.

Two of her strongest traits are patience and understanding. The first one made it to her wrist as a tattoo. It is a constant reminder how important patience is – especially for an Aries.

Over the years, she’s learned that happiness is our responsibility and only we can make ourselves happy. Our actions, our reactions, our decisions and solutions are the way to more happiness every day.

Will You Commit To Your Success?

“If you don’t want more for yourself, that’s fine, someone else will get that win.

Tim Grover

Daily Success Strategies Episode 300: Will You Commit To Your Success?

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

I remember at the beginning of the pandemic when they started to make people wait in line to get into grocery stores, to finally get in and find the shelves empty.

I knew right then that there were going to be people who discovered, or created, amazing opportunities for themselves.

I talked about it a lot. I talk about it in my Momentum Series. If you are sitting back waiting for someone to give you the answers and tell you what to do, when things open back up, when opportunities present themselves, you’ll be in the back of the line getting the empty shelves.

I had no idea at that time that we would still be dealing with this 16 months later.

People have gone through some terrible things during that time. But there have been some winners as well. There have been some who figured out or created their opportunities and have been at the front of the line.

Good for them!

Some have been doing everything right but still haven’t figured it out or got their lucky break. To them I say, “keep going!”

But it’s hard. The voices…

Your family.

Your friends.

The voices in your head…

Tim Grover said:

“You can pay the price of Winning and succeed, or you can quit, stay where you are, and pay the price of regret.

Winning will use every dirty trick in the book – and make up new ones just to entertain itself – to keep you in hell. It’s too hard, it whispers… you’ll never get there… your parents don’t believe in you… your friends think you’re crazy… look at you, you’re already a failure. Which, by no coincidence, is exactly what you were already thinking. So you stay there, waiting. Waiting to feel different, waiting to be told what to do, waiting for an answer that never comes. And meanwhile, the flames are getting hotter and hotter, until you can’t take it. You have to take action, or you burn out. But instead of being propelled by the heat, you become frozen where you are.”

Don’t be frozen.

Don’t listen to the voices that are telling you that you can’t do it.

Start taking action now! Not tomorrow. What can you do right now?

You’ve got to rebuild. Rebuild stronger.

Nobody is coming to save you. Take responsibility for your own future and do something now.

Proximity Is Power – How Brent Coppieters Became Russell Brunson’s Business Partner

“You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with”

004: Brent Coppieters – “How I Became Russell Bruson’s Business Partner”

“You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with”

How true is this statement? If it’s true, what areas of your life does this apply to?

It is true, and it impacts every area of your life.

It impacts your career, your wealth, happiness, goals, relationships, physical condition, and attitude.

You become who you spend your time with… Proximity is Power.

We want our kids to have good friends that are a positive impact on them. Why? Because become like those they spend time with.

In Surround Yourself With Greatness, Chad Lewis says, “It is vital to surround ourselves with good friends as it is for a fish to live in water, especially in our teenage years. It is critically important to our lives, our future, our health, and our safety to be around positive influences, people who don’t tempt us but rather help us make good decisions. A friend who sees the good in us and encourages us to be our best self is worth more than his weight in pure gold.”

It’s no different for us in our adult lives. Our happiness and success is dependent on who we choose to surround ourselves with.

Look at the people around you.

Are they more successful than you? Are they positive and excited about the future? Are they goal orientated?

Where will they be in twenty years? Is that the direction you want to be headed in?

The people that you surround yourself with are either pulling you up, or they are

dragging you down. Which is it?

Who do you want to become?

What goals do you have?

Who are the five people you spend the most time with?

Are those five people helping you to become closer to these goals? Are they encouraging you, or are they telling you to stop dreaming?

Do you like to share your big goals and aspirations with these people because they get excited with you?

Or, do you avoid talking about your goals because you don’t want to hear their negativity. “You can’t do that. Stop dreaming so much”

I have a mentor and business partner that I love to spend time with and talk to because every time we talk his optimism and energy is contagious. Just having a visit feels like a pep-talk and I feel like I’m ready to take on the world.

In contract, compare that to those that are always negative and pessimistic. What’s the difference in feeling you get from those conversations?

In this episode of The Jeff Heggie Show, Brent Coppieters shares his story of how he met Russell Brunson and built a genuine friendship that eventually became a business partnership in an incredible company that they have built, Clickfunnels.

What Is Failure?

“If we are doing anything important, the possibility of failure exists.

Matthew Bain

Daily Success Strategies Episode 298: Your Perspective of Failure with Matthew Bain

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

We can learn a lot from failure. If you don’t learn from failure and become better because of it, you have wasted the experience.

We’ve all heard the quotes:

“Failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.”

“Fail fast, fail hard, fail often”

Failure is a part of life; it’s going to happen.

But that doesn’t make it any more fun. It’s easy to recite all the failure quotes, but when you fail, it still sucks.

That’s why it’s important to think about it before it happens. What are you going to do if you fail? How are you going to respond?

But even before that, “What is failure?”

I’ve watched an entrepreneur go through the struggles of a failed business with grace. I’ve also wondered if the world was going to come to an end after watching the reaction of a star basketball player missing a free throw.

Take the time to understand what failure is to you.

If you fail, what’s the worst that could happen and how would you deal with it?

Learn how to live with a growth mindset so that you don’t allow a failure to define you as a person. Failure is an outcome, it’s not who you are. Failure hurts, but it still doesn’t define you.

You can’t always control what happens to you, but you can control how you react.

I’m a strong believer in the benefits of visualization and seeing the outcomes that you desire. I don’t want you to focus on the negative because you become what you think about. But I do encourage you to consider the worst outcomes so that you can know ahead of time, before emotions are involved, how you’ll deal with a situation. You’re not visualizing failure, you’re being smart and proactive.

When failure happens, focus on the things that you can control.

Control your thoughts and emotions so that you can make smart decisions during the chaos.

Unwavering Confidence

“Confidence is about taking chances, and never doubting the outcome...

You can’t win if you can’t gamble on yourself, and you can’t gamble if you don’t believe you can win…

Winning requires you to set unrealistic goals, and expect to achieve them.”

Tim S. Grover

Daily Success Strategies Episode 297: Unwavering Confidence

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

“…the steer wrestling this year could have been very easily called “The Jeff Heggie Show.” Jeff finished his weekend as the Finals Champion as well as the Average Winner…”

When I think of times in my life when I had unwavering confidence in myself, this was one of them. At that time in my life, I didn’t understand confidence like I do today. I didn’t understand the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset.

All that I knew on this weekend was that nobody was going to beat me.

I remember my older brother apologizing that he couldn’t be there to support me because of other commitments. I told him that it was too bad, because I was going to win it all. I didn’t tell him this out of arrogance or wishful thinking. It was a matter of fact.

I won.

Two weeks later I was in Red Deer AB competing in the FCA rodeo finals. I remember wishing I could get that feeling of confidence back that I had two weeks earlier. But it wasn’t there.

I did well. I won some money. But I didn’t leave as the champion.

When I reflect on this now it’s a “I wish I knew then what I know now” kind of moment.

Back then, my brother had given me a sports psychology article on visualization, and I practiced that a lot. But I didn’t have an understanding of confidence like I do today. I didn’t understand what a fixed mindset was compared to a growth mindset. There was a lot I didn’t know that could have helped me to be a better athlete.

These are the same things that will help you in other areas of life outside of athletics as well.

In my Momentum Series I teach how you can build your confidence through the Momentum Cycle. Through the Momentum Cycle we can tap into our potential and take action. When we take the proper action, we produce results. The results we produce build our level of confidence, and then the cycle continues and grows. When we have more confidence, we tap into more of our potential, etc.

That’s a very simplified, quick explanation of the Momentum Cycle. You can get more details in my free Momentum Series at https://jeffheggie.com/momentum/

Tony Robbins teaches that by getting the results in advance we can increase our level of confidence. This is where our competency comes into play. When we’ve put in the work and effort to master our skill, we know we’ve put in the work and have a belief in our ability.

This is what world champion, Tyson Durfey (219: No Limits Living with Tyson Durfey) talked about when he said he had a high level of confidence because he knew that nobody had put the work in that he had.

If you really want to win in life, you need to develop an unwavering confidence in yourself. You have to believe in yourself and your goals.

In W1NNING, Tim Grover says, “Very few people are able – or willing – to bet on themselves. They become the assistant manager of their own lives, waiting for directions and approval from some higher authority because they don’t feel confident enough to make decisions and take action on their own.”

Confidence is knowing, without a doubt, that you will win at whatever you are doing.

If you don’t win. It’s learning from what happened so you will win next time. It’s about believing in yourself and being willing to go all in.

The first thing you can do today, is make the decision to be confident.

Believe in yourself. Bet on yourself.

“If you think like everyone else, if you act like everyone else, if you follow the same protocols and traditions and habits like everyone else, guess what: You’ll BE like everyone else.”

Daily Success Strategies Episode 296: Become a Confident Athlete

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

All of your life you’ve been taught WHAT TO THINK.

It’s time you learn HOW TO THINK.

You’re in charge of your mind. You can help it grow by using it the right way

Just learning about the growth mindset can cause a big shift in the way people think about themselves and their lives.

John, a collegiate student athlete, shared this when he learned about the fixed mindset and growth mindset:

“As a student athlete I had a fixed mindset. Winning was everything and learning did not enter the picture. However, after [learning about fixed and growth mindsets] I realized that I did not have a good mindset. I’ve been working on learning while I compete, under the realization that if I can continually improve, even in games, I will become a much better athlete.”

John’s internal monologue use to be: Win. Win. Win. You have to win to prove yourself. Everything depends on winning.

Now it’s: Observe. Learn. Improve. Become a better athlete.

First – You need to learn as much as you can about having a Fixed Mindset and a Growth Mindset. (I’ve talked about this is other episodes of my Daily Success Strategies podcast. This is also a major focus in my course, High Achievers Mindset Secrets https://mindset.jeffheggie.com/)

Second – You need to learn How to Think!

Through this effort and combination, you’ll be able to figure out what’s best for you because you’ve cracked YOUR code.

Don’t just do ‘it’ because someone told you to.

Tim Grover, in his book W1NNING, he says that “it’s no coincidence that the greats figure out what works for them, regardless of what everyone else does.”

If you’re an athlete that is committed to be ready for your next season, you must develop your mental game!

Join me in The Confident Athlete Program where you’ll discover the secret formula to develop a powerful mindset, extreme confidence, and take your game to the next level!

“I have been thinking for quite some days about how to explain in words the impact of this course in all areas of my life.

This course had a plethora of examples of how one can implement a growth mindset in his or her professional and personal life.

You just have to believe in yourself and have the right attitude towards the challenges in life.

Also, the best part about this course was the mental health awareness in which Tia shared her story and emphasized that it is okay to get help when you feel stuck and depressed.

After doing this course, I am more confident, decisive and mindful about how to spend my time and energy on the things that matter.

Thank you for creating and sharing this course.”

295: Million Dollar Opportunity with Hunter Reaume

There will be times in our lives when you’re given the opportunity to see what all your hard work and preparation has done for you. But hard work and preparation don’t guarantee you anything.

What do you do when you’ve done everything right and when your opportunity comes, things don’t work out?

Hunter Reaume is a great athlete, but he’s much more than that. He’s an incredible person.

Hunter is a professional rodeo cowboy and he’s worked hard at perfecting his craft as a tie-down roper. His hard work and dedication finally paid off and gave him the opportunity to perform on the biggest stage of his life at AT&T Stadium in an elite rodeo called The American.

It was a long road to qualify to make it to the final performance and it came down to the best of the best. It started with over 250 cowboys, but on the final day it was down to four. If Hunter was the fastest time on this final day of the rodeo, he would win $1,100,000!

His preparation paid off! He made the fastest time of his life at 7.2 second. He was going to be a millionaire… Until the unimaginable happened and changed everything.

Listen to his story HERE and then you’ll know why I have such a deep respect for this man.

Winning Is Inside All of Us…

Don’t Fear Failure…

Fear Being In The Exact Same Place Next Year As You Are Today.

Daily Success Strategies Episode 294: Winning Is Inside All of Us

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

“Don’t fear failure… Fear being in the exact same place next year as you are today.”

After posting that quote on Instagram I had a number of people discuss their goals with me. Actually, more than discussing their goals, they talked about how they don’t stick to their goals. I shared some quotes with them on winning from Tim Grover’s new book, W1NNING.

“Motivation is for those who haven’t decided whether to commit to their goals, or how much time, effort, and life they’re willing to invest to achieve them.”

“Winning is inside all of us, but for most, that’s where it will stay, trapped under a lifetime of fear and worry and doubt.”

“The race to greatness has no rules to protect you. Nothing says you’re not going to lose, you’re not going to get hurt, you’re not going to do all this work for nothing. There’s no guarantee it will be ‘fair.’ Most likely it will not be fair. You’ll lose at the buzzer. You’ll lose to someone who didn’t work as hard as you did. You’ll lose on a bad call, or a bad play. Someone else will get the job. A pandemic will wipe out your season, your bank account, your career.”

When we set goals and give up on them, it becomes a habit. It becomes something that we accept, and we start to accept it into all areas of our lives. Somehow, we figure out how to justify quitting as acceptable.

The first time you give up, it’s painful.

The second time it’s still painful but you’ve done it before and it feels familiar, and there’s comfort in familiarity.

Each time that you quit or give up, it becomes easier and easier.

But Jeff Olson says, “It’s just as easy to step back into the habit of succeeding as it is to slip into the habit of failing.”

It doesn’t matter where you are now.

It doesn’t matter how many times you’ve quit.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve allowed quitting to become a habit.

Start over today. Get back into the habit of succeeding! If you don’t have written out, clearly defined goals, get my free Momentum Series at https://jeffheggie.com/momentum/ to set your goals. If you’ve been through my Momentum Series before, but it’s been a while, go through it again.

The Riches Are In The Niches

Don’t Just Be The Best…

Be The Only!

Daily Success Strategies 293: The Riches Are In The Niches

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

Identifying you niche is one of the most important steps in your business. But unfortunately, it’s also one of the most avoided, or resisted steps.

From the outside, this resistance makes sense. Most entrepreneurs that are afraid to narrow their niche feel this way because they don’t want to miss out on customers and opportunities. By narrowing down their niche they are excluding potential customers and they are making their market smaller

However, as the saying goes, “when you try to be everything to everyone, you accomplish being nothing to anyone.” When you get very specific about who your market is, you can focus on their biggest needs and struggles.

There are over 7 billion people on earth. They’re all not your potential customers. You can get a much, much smaller niche that is still a huge market.

Let me share an example of how this could work.

In 2012, my wife and I went through the incredibly challenging process of an international adoption from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo). Because we were adopting from the Congo, which is not a country that is part of the Hague Convention, we (I say we, as in my wife) had to do everything ourselves.

We had never adopted before and had no idea what we were doing. We were living in Canada at the time and had to get approval from the Alberta government before we could even begin the process. Then there was the work with adoption agencies. We had one take all of our money and then get shut down for unethical practices. We found a new agency. We had to work with lawyers and governments. It was an incredible process.

Once we finally had the adoption legally completed, we could finally travel over to Africa to pick up our beautiful son. But once there in the Congo, we had so much more to do. We knew it would take a couple of weeks for their government to give us the exit letters that would allow us to leave.

There are so many stories of blessings, stress, excitement, and anxiety throughout this process. It could have been such a better experience if there was someone that could have held our hand through the process.

So, for the sake of this example, let’s pretend my wife decided to start a business to help people with their international adoptions. How would she niche it down? Who is her target audience?

It’s not the 7 billion people of this world.

We first narrow it down to those who are adopting. This is still a huge number of people, but her expertise doesn’t serve all of them.

How about those that are adopting internationally? This definitely narrows it down. But she doesn’t know everything about adopting from China.

Let’s narrow it to those families adopting from Africa. That’s definitely bringing in a lot of her expertise. But keep going.

We could narrow it to those adopting from Africa countries that are not part of the Hague Convention. These people definitely need her expertise, and she probably wouldn’t have a lot of competition.

But if she narrowed it all the way down to the families adopting from the DR Congo, she’s focused in on those who definitely need all of her expertise. Plus, as far as I know, she wouldn’t just be the best at this, she would be the ONLY!

Would we have hired someone like this? Absolutely. But there was nobody to hire.

I believe every family that adopts from the DR Congo would hire someone like this in one form or another. If she was the only option, who are they going to hire?

Niche down until you start to get scared that your market is too small.

Become the expert!

Become the best!

Even better… Be the ONLY!

Are You Mentally Tough Enough To Be Great?

“Mental Toughness Is When You Can Find Fuel In An Empty Tank.”

Daily Success Strategies Episode 292: Are You Mentally Tough Enough To Be Great?

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

How can you reach your full potential?

Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought, “I was meant for greater things?”

There is more in you. You’ve just got to be willing to go get it.

Your greatness is outside of your comfort zone.

You’ve got to get comfortable being uncomfortable.

Every single morning, go through your Mindset Questions (www.JeffHeggie.com/mindset). When you get to the question that asks you what you’re going to do to step out of your comfort zone that day, stretch further than you did the day before.

Every single time you step out of your comfort zone, your comfort zone expands.

When you’re proud of yourself because you pushed through to your limit, look deep. I guarantee you have more in you! How bad do you want it? Keep going. As I mention in the podcast, when I got to my eighth rep and wanted to stop, I pushed through and knocked out 10! Yes, I was proud and happy I had accomplished that, but at that moment I also realized I had more in me and kept going.

We are always looking for quick answers. Be patient. When it’s taking longer to reach your goal than you would like, don’t quit. Don’t throw in the towel. Remember why you are doing it in the first place (know your ‘why,’ go through the 7-Levels Deep exercise at www.JeffHeggie.com/momentum).

You were meant for greatness, but it’s not going to be handed to you. Go get it!

Give Yourself Permission to Succeed

“If you want to achieve greatness, stop asking for permission.”

Daily Success Strategies Episode 296: Give Yourself Permission to Succeed

Apple | Spotify | Google | Anchor | Breaker | Pocket Cast | RadioPublic | YouTube

I’m often approached by people who want to make a change in their life. They have a big idea. Often, they’ve had it for a while. They have a dream they believe in, but they haven’t done anything about it. It’s as if they want me to give them permission to go for it.

Stop Looking for Permission

Stop looking to others for permission. This is your life. You only need your permission. If you want it, go for it!

What’s holding you back? What are you afraid of? Make good choices but make a decision one way or another.

If you are using my Mindset Questions (https://jeffheggie.com/mindset/), you’re already stepping out of your comfort zone on a daily basis. The more you step out of your comfort zone, the more your confidence will grow. The less you will look to others for permission.

Are You In or Are You Out?

Once you make the decision to move forward with your idea, do it obsessively. Become obsessed with your dreams and goals. When you become obsessed with a goal or project, your subconscious will go to work and help you figure out how to achieve it. You can learn more about this at, https://jeffheggie.com/2021/05/22/why-you-become-what-you-think-about/

Put In The Work

Do you want to become great at something? Put in the work.

As a basketball coach I always see the jealousy towards the best players. There are always players on the team that want the playing time as the best players, the recognition, and the stats. Sometimes they even try to degrade the better players saying they are given special treatment by the coach and they should be getting as much playing time as the better player.

What they never acknowledge is the fact that the better player has and continues to put in way more effort in all the aspects of the sport. They practice significantly more on their own, they watch film. They study and learn the game better. They do so much behind the scenes that nobody even knows about.

If you want to become great, put in the work. If you want to achieve your goals, put in the work.

Be Consistent

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times. It’s the daily success habits that separate the best from the rest.

Develop your success habits and be consistent with them. If they don’t immediately produce results, keep going! John Lee Dumas said, “Entrepreneurs don’t fail. They just stop doing the things that would eventually make them successful.”

Sometimes you’ll see results quickly. Sometimes it will seem like it’s never going to happen. Stay focused and keep going. You’ll get there.

What are your goals? (If you don’t have clearly defined, written down goals, get my FREE Momentum Series at https://jeffheggie.com/momentum/) Don’t wait for someone to give you permission to go chase them. Give yourself permission and go do it!

Why You Become What You Think About

Think Big and Don’t Listen to People Who Tell You It Can’t Be Done. Life’s Too Short To Think Small.

Tim ferris

You may or may not know who Sara Blakely is, you have probably heard about her story. Starting with $5,000 of her own savings she has become the first self- made, woman billionaire who didn’t get any of her wealth from a spouse or from inheritance. As the story goes, she cut the bottoms out of her pantyhose, created the company, SPANX, and became a billionaire. But there’s always more to the story.

When Sara grew up, she wanted to be a lawyer, just like her father. But after failing the LSAT miserably, twice, she knew that law was not in her future. As she tells the story, she took the next logical step. She travelled to Disney World to try out to be Goofy! But to be Goofy, you need to be 5’8” and she’s only 5’6”, which was the perfect size for a Chipmunk. After three months working as a Chipmunk, she took a new job selling fax machines door to door in Clearwater, Florida. This became her life for the next seven years.

Door to door sales is a difficult job, but Sara stuck with it for a long time. But one day, she was so upset with her life, she pulled over to the side of the road and said to herself, “I’m in the wrong movie! Call the director. Cut! This is not my life.”

That night she drew a line down the middle of her journal and made a list of her strengths and weaknesses.

She asked herself what she was good at, and how that could help her to create a better life for herself.

After making this list, she determined that sales was one of her biggest strengths and committed to herself that night, “I’m going to invent something that I can sell to millions of people that will make them feel good.” She said out-loud, “Universe, give me the idea and I won’t squander it.”

Sara didn’t have any idea what it was at the time, but she made it an obsession and continued to ask herself repeatedly, “What can I invent and sell?”

Two years later she was still asking herself what it was that she was going to invent and sell. Then one evening as she was getting ready for a party, she cut the feet out of her control top pantyhose to go to a party. That night when she got home, she thought, “This might be my idea!”

Ask Persistently With The Expectation of Receiving an Answer

Your Success and Happiness Lie in You

Helen Keller

From that point SPANX was still not an overnight success. There is a lot more that can be learned from Sara’s story of determination and grit as she built her company. But what I want to focus on today is the fact that Sara decided what it was she wanted and for two years she continued to ask persistently with the expectation of receiving an answer. So, when the opportunity presented itself, she saw it. She said, “Because I had asked myself the question and set my intention two years prior, that’s the reason I am where I am rather than the millions of other women who had been cutting the feet out of their pantyhose to solve the same undergarment issue.” She had been spending two years questioning, manifesting, visualizing and setting intentions.

There are many things we can learn from Sara’s story. But what I want to discuss is summed up well in The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale when he says, “To change your circumstances, first start thinking differently.” It didn’t happen immediately, but when Sara started to ask herself specific questions, with the expectation of receiving her answers, she started things in motion that changed her life.

Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “A man is what he thinks about all day long.”

How does this happen?

Let’s first ask, how do you evaluate your life? Your feelings, things that are happening around you and the decisions you make.

Your thinking is the process of asking and answering questions.

We are fortunate as humans to be able to think about what we think about.

As we evaluate our life, things around us, and make decisions, we ask and answer questions in our mind. Therefore, if thinking is the process of asking and answering questions, that means, if you want to make any changes in your life, you should change the habitual questions that you are asking yourself. The questions you ask yourself dictate your focus and therefore how you think and feel.

This is where your Reticular Activating System (RAS) comes into play. The RAS is a network of nerves at the base of your brain that’s about the size of your baby finger. The significance of the RAS is the function it controls. It makes sure that your brain doesn’t have to deal with more information than it can handle. It’s the filter, or gatekeeper of information that it lets in. It takes all of the information you are receiving and decides for you if it’s something that’s important or not.

When we moved from Alberta to Arizona, I bought my daughter a Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder. It was a little black convertible. I liked the car as soon as I saw it. I had never seen one before and thought it was pretty cool. But after we bought it, I started to see the same car everywhere.

It wasn’t that I had actually never seen this model of car before. My RAS had just never recognized it as something important to me. But now that we owned one, it was something that was considered important and I began noticing the others.

Have you bought a new dress and then all of a sudden noticed many other people wearing the same dress? Is it just coincidence that you bought this new dress and so did a bunch of other women in your area? No, those dresses were there before, they’ve just become something that is important to you now. The RAS now recognizes this as something that’s important to you and brings it to your attention.

When you change the habitual questions you are always asking yourself, the RAS recognizes those questions as something that’s important to you and will find your answers. Sara was continually asking herself, “What can I invent and sell?” That is why she recognized the opportunity when it presented itself. Her RAS recognized that as something important to her and was looking for an answer.

When a study was conducted on successful people and they were compared to people who had less success, it was found that the biggest difference was that successful people ask better questions, and as a result, they get better answers.

This is not just powerful when we are looking at our future or setting goals, this is powerful knowledge that helps us in many areas of our lives. We recognize that questions are the quickest way to change our focus.

Let’s take for example a person who is always asking themselves disempowering questions. “What’s the use?” “Why even try? Nothing ever works for me anyway.”

How different would things be if that person consciously changed the questions they were asking. “How will this benefit me?” “What could be good about this?”

If you can develop the habit of recognizing the questions you are asking yourself, when you ask yourself disempowering questions you will recognize it and can make the change immediately.

What You Think About Is What You Become

Change Your Thoughts and You Can change Your World.

Norman Vincent Peale

Our brains will give us whatever we ask for.

What you think about is what you become. When you become more consciously aware of your thoughts and the questions you are asking yourself, you can create the life you want. A more powerful life.

If the goal is to control the habitual questions that you are asking yourself so that you can create a bigger future, how do you go about that? You can engage the power of your RAS by being more intentional with the words you use and the thoughts you have.

Goals and Mindset Questions

Don’t Let Small Minds Convince You

That Your Dreams Are Too Big

Your daily success habits have a major impact on your life. It’s the little things that we do consistently (good or bad) that compound over time and have major outcomes.

I begin every day by writing out by goals and answering a series of questions that I call my Mindset Questions.

By starting my day like this, I’m engaging my RAS to help me find the answers to help me accomplish my goals and desires.

Sara had a goal to invent something to sell to millions. After asking herself what it was for two years, she discovered her answer.

If you don’t have clearly defined, written out goals that you can write out and think about on a daily basis, you can get my Momentum Series for free at https://jeffheggie.com/momentum/.
