Daxon Heggie | 6’2″ 210 lbs | 3.4 gpa | Casteel High School, Queen Creek AZ
One of my great joys in life has been watching my children play their favorite sport. When Daxon was in 2nd grade, we were living in Cardston AB and I had the opportunity to coach him on his first tackle football team. Between basketball and football I had the opportunity to coach him a number of times, but more than a coach, I was his fan.
When we moved to Arizona Daxon began school at American Leadership Academy in Queen Creek. He expressed interest in moving to the quarterback position and was fortunate to have Max Hall (BYU & Arizona Cardinals) as one of the coaches. Max worked hard with Daxon which gave him the opportunity to fill the quarterback position on the junior varsity team his freshman year.
Unfortunately, in the final game of the season, Daxon broke his leg which required surgery and a long recovery.
Daxon loved football, but at the time basketball was really his sport. Because of his broken leg he missed his freshman year of basketball and as a sophomore decided not to play football.
But by his junior year he was eager to get back on the football field and after a great season was able to be a part of the American Leadership Academy 3A State Championship team!
During this time our family had moved. Daxon’s younger sister, Jovi, had transferred to a school that was closer to our new home, Casteel High School. Daxon wanted the opportunity to play his senior year at a 6A school and also transferred at the semester break of his junior year. Because of transfer rules, he knew that this would mean that he would have to sit out half of the regular season games, but he would still be able to play in the spring games, the second half of the season and playoffs.
For recruiting purposes, he knew that spring football would be important for him to gain the attention of college coaches. In March I was on a recruiting trip with him Daxon. It had been a great trip. We visited USC, UCLA, Utah State, Weber State. We were at Southern Utah University and had plans to visit Dixie State the following day. As we were eating lunch at SUU, we saw a press conference in which the government announced shut down rules because of COVID-19.
Unfortunately this ended up meaning there was no spring football. But we were all grateful that they still had the opportunity to play an abbreviated season. Daxon still had to sit out half of their games because of the transfer, but he was able to have a great second half of the season and some playoff games until they were eliminated by Highland in a 30-20 loss. He was able to play in Casteel’s final five games.
2020 was the first year Casteel played in the 6A division. They had a good year and finished as the 6A Fiesta Region Champions.

Jeff Heggie is an entrepreneur and success coach with a passion for helping others achieve their biggest dreams. As a coach, Jeff starts with a focus on mindset. Taking his client or their business to the next level always begins with the right mindset. Jeff enjoys using his extensive experience in the banking industry, over 20 years as an entrepreneur, plus his training and experience as a coach to help his clients break through the mental and physical barriers that are holding them back.
Jeff and his wife, Tamara, both grew up in Southern Alberta but now make Arizona home. Family and sports have always been important to him. He loves spending his time coaching or watching his kids. He’s a former professional rodeo cowboy and has over 20 years experience coaching basketball.
Please tell us a little bit about your company – what is (Jeff Heggie Coaching) all about?
As a coach, a lot of my focus is spent working with entrepreneurs and growing their businesses. Many of my clients have been in the early start-up phase of their business which has given me the opportunity to be involved from the beginning. But I also have a number of clients who are small business owners looking to build their business by increasing their leads and conversions. We focus on proven business and marketing strategies that enable them to do this without increasing the amount of money they are spending on marketing and advertising.
Aside from entrepreneurs I also work with athletes, coaches, and other high achievers who want to discover their full potential and achieve their big dreams. As an entrepreneur, professional rodeo athlete, and a basketball coach I’ve seen how developing a powerful mindset can make the difference between success and failure in all areas of life.
In addition to business coaching, I also focus a lot on mindset coaching in many different niches. Entrepreneurs begin their journey with big hopes and dreams but often get sidetracked with the challenges of running a business. This often slows down their progress, exposes self-doubt and limiting beliefs, and holds them back from what they are truly capable of. But once they regain control of their mindset, they can get back on track, overcome the things holding them back and do amazing things.
When it comes to athletes I work with both individuals as well as teams. One of the things that I love about athletics is that there is so much they have to deal with in their sport that directly relates to life. As you help athletes become successful in their sport, they are automatically gaining the tools that will help them to succeed in life as well.
The most talented athlete can fail because they don’t have a powerful mindset. At the same time, an athlete who has far less talent can excel because of their mindset. Whether it’s in a team environment or a one-on-one basis, I love helping athletes discover their true potential and develop powerful, growth mindsets.
Tell us a little bit about your background and how/why you started your company?
My background is quite diverse, and I have experience in many areas.
I graduated college with a major in entrepreneurship. I was offered a great job in the banking industry, but I turned it down because my true love and focus at the time was rodeo. I was a professional rodeo cowboy steer wrestler and that’s what I wanted to spend my time doing.
However, about six months later I reconsidered the bank’s offer and luckily the opportunity was still there for me. I loved the banking industry and climbed the ladder quickly. I was soon a bank manager running my own branch and had the opportunity to meet and spend time with a lot of entrepreneurs.
One day while I was sitting in the office of a client, I looked through an artificial stone catalog he had on his desk. Something there sparked some excitement and I ended up leaving the bank to start a stone manufacturing company, Kodiak Mountain Stone. This was in 2005 and today I’m still the CEO of that company.
Running that company for the past 15 years has taught me a lot. I’ve done a lot of things right and I’ve done a lot of things wrong. I have always enjoyed my opportunities to coach and mentor other entrepreneurs throughout the years. I have always felt that my entrepreneurial experience is a very valuable tool to allow me to help other entrepreneurs.
Along with my experience and some additional training, I have been coaching for the past couple of years and have loved the opportunity.
What would you say are the top 3 skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur, and why?
A) Implement ‘Who, Not How’
I recently wrote an article on this topic based on Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan’s book by the same name. Through my own experience plus that from working with clients, I believe entrepreneurs will find success faster when they spend less time doing things themselves and finding the right people to help them.
It’s a hard thing for entrepreneurs to do because they feel they can do it better, quicker, etc. But when they are more willing to delegate and look for the ‘who,’ they will find success quicker.
B) Network Well
People do business with those they know, like, and trust. You have to understand all three of these areas and work on them. Networking well helps you to work on all three of these areas. If nobody knows you or about you, how are they going to do business with you. Networking well helps you to open more doors and expose yourself to more opportunities. It also helps you in the previous point in finding “Who, Not How.”
C) Understand That Failure Is an Option
There is nothing fun about failure. You hear from everyone that “failure is part of success” and things like that. But that doesn’t mean that it’s something you’ll enjoy. Failure of any size is hard and it sucks. But taking the stance that “failure is not an option,” can end up just costing you more money and delaying the inevitable. When you do everything you can to succeed, but understand that failure is an option, it will allow you to face and deal with hard truths.
When you drag something out too long, trying to bring it back, you may end up losing a lot more in the long run. On the other hand, you may be able to restart in a new direction and make a significant amount of money in that same time period.
What were the top 3 mistakes you made starting your business and what did you learn from it?
A) I didn’t begin delegating soon enough. As entrepreneurs, we often start out doing everything ourselves. I was in this position and was doing a pretty good job juggling everything. When I got to the pain point of having to delegate, it was a struggle. In my mind, nobody would do as good of a job as I was doing. When I finally made the move, I was proven correct. They didn’t do a good of a job as I was, they did it much better. Meaning, the things that I wasn’t excited about doing, to begin with, were getting done better now, plus I had more time to focus on the things was doing well.
B) Hired the best option available. In hiring for a position, I didn’t have anyone apply that was the perfect fit. None of the applicants were ideal, but I ended up picking the best of what was given to me, even though I knew they were not a great fit. I should not have done that. I should have dealt with the pain of not having an employee rather than hiring an employee that wasn’t the right fit. Obviously, this person didn’t end up staying with me long because they were not a good fit.
C) Maximize the leverage of your network. Now as I create my courses I have come to realize the power in using affiliates. When you can work with your network and they can benefit by sharing your content, product, etc with their network you can get a much further reach a lot faster than you can do it on your own. Treat your partners in your network well and you can both receive some amazing rewards from it.
What are the top 3 online tools and resources you’re currently using to grow your company?
A) Social media is an incredible tool. Most of my success is from Instagram. It’s amazing how small the world becomes online. Through social media, I have been able to meet and work with people from all over the entire world.
B) Zoom – Zoom has been a great tool for me as an entrepreneur and especially as a coach. Whether I’m meeting with my staff, clients, prospects, or someone that I’ve offered a free strategy session to, it’s easy to connect. Having a video conference adds a personal component that you can’t get from a phone call.
C) ClickFunnels – ClickFunnels has been a great way for me to build my sales funnels and my membership sites for my courses.
What are three books or courses you recommend for entrepreneurs?
I have many different books I suggest to my clients depending on what they are working on or dealing with. But in general, there are some that I always suggest:
If you only had $100 dollars to start a new business, knowing everything you know now, how would you spend it?
I would stretch this money out as far as I could. I would immediately begin networking through social media and anywhere else that I could meet people. I would spend my time answering questions and adding value as much as I could without pushing my own agenda at all. While adding value without the expectation of anything in return, I would begin to get noticed. My influence and following would be growing. Through this process, I would look for a common niche that I could become recognized as an expert in. Once this was established, I would begin to develop a course on the topic while I continued to engage and add value online.
Once I was ready with the course I would continue to add as much value as possible by contributing and answering questions. But I would also begin to offer free strategy sessions on the topic. Many of the people who would take me up on the free strategy session would only want the freebie and nothing
more, which is fine. But through these strategy sessions I would offer my coaching programs and my new online course. I could go through this entire process without spending a lot of money. If I had any left at this point, I would use it for social media ads to spread my reach quicker.

Jeff Heggie: (00:00) Welcome, Jeff Heggie Daily Success Strategies. Thanks for being with me today. What I want to talk about is some strategies that you need to know and understand to finish 2020 strong and to make 2021 an incredible year. And then there’s something else I want to share with you right at the end. That’s just something I’ve got developed today that I’m excited about that I can’t wait to share, but first of all, it is Friday. So I want you to reflect back on what you committed to on Monday. What did you say that you needed to accomplish so that on Friday you could look back and say it’s been a successful week and you’re closer to your bigger goals? So send me a DM, email me at Jeff@JeffHeggie.com Or wherever you’re listening to this, just leave me a message and tell me how your week’s been.
Jeff Heggie: (00:40) And if you crushed it, if you’re closer to your bigger goals. So earlier this week, I was on a podcast with my good friend, Melissa, the SAVVY Business Podcast, and we had a great conversation, but one of the things we got talking about, we got talking about my High Achievers Mindset Secrets course, and we got talking about the whole idea of mindset. And we started talking basketball. Melissa is part of my Inner Circle Mastermind. So we’ve talked a lot and she knows I am a basketball coach and we’ve talked different scenarios. And we got talking about how similar athletics are to business and other aspects in life and why athletics are such a good analogy for life events. And one of the things we talked about, I want to share because it is such a good analogy for what we’re doing and what we’re trying to achieve.
Jeff Heggie: (01:28) And especially when it comes to mindset, it’s such an important thing. So as a basketball coach, my philosophy is I like to fast break. I like to run teams. I like a fast paced game, and I just think it’s more exciting and a lot more fun to do. So to have a team that can do that, you’ve got to be in shape. But there’s a lot of things when it comes to being in shape, that I think are powerful tools. And I want you to look at this, not just as basketball. I want you to look at this, how this impacts anything you do in life. Because like I said to Melissa, part of being a high school basketball coach is one, you’re coaching a basketball team. You’re teaching them basketball concepts, basketball skills, those sorts of things. You’re also teaching these kids how to be good people, how to be good adults.
Jeff Heggie: (02:20) I have a lot of things in my life that I have adopted and become part of me because of my high school coaches. And so that’s part of what we do. But the thing about the type of basketball I coach is you’ve got to be in very good shape. And so we condition a lot. We do a lot of running. We do a lot of all the things that are going to make sure that you’re in good shape. But one of the things that I tell my teams a lot is yes, it’s important to be in shape because you’ve got to be able to run up and down the floor and still play at your best. But that’s not the most important part about it. Because one of the things I also do is when we’re doing our conditioning, when we’re in between exercises and they have a chance to catch their breath, they’re not allowed to bend over, put their hands on their knees and show that they’re tired because just as important it is to be in shape, it’s important to be mentally strong.
Jeff Heggie: (03:20) And that’s what a lot of this conditioning does. It makes you mentally tough. And when you can present yourself and show that you’re strong, regardless of how tired you are, that’s a huge asset. And what I tell my teams all the time is when we’re in the fourth quarter and the game has been close and it’s been a tough game and the other team is exhausted, whether you’re exhausted or not. When they look at you and you don’t show it, you show that you’re strong, that you’re ready to go. That you’re not tired. You just won the mental game. So part of my conditioning philosophy is as much as getting in shape, it’s being mentally strong. And so what are you doing in your life and your business to develop that mindset, to prepare yourself so that when things are tough, when things are on the line, you’re mentally strong and you can win that game because you’re mentally strong.
Jeff Heggie: (04:18) These are some of the things we talk about in High Achievers Mindset Secrets. So if these are strategies that are applicable to you, I’d love you to contact me and we could get on a free 45 minute strategy session and talked about how these things could be applicable to you. And you can go to mindset.JeffHeggie.com To learn more about that program. The thing I want to share with you today, you know, those of you that have been following me for a long time, I’ve talked a lot about my Momentum Series. It’s a program that I put together right at the beginning of COVID because I knew there was going to be a lot of things just messed up in 2020. I didn’t expect it to be this long, but I knew things were going to be messed up. And one of the things I talk about in that program, and you can get it at www.JeffHeggie.com.
Jeff Heggie: (05:07) It’s a free program on my site. But one of the things I talked about in that is being prepared for when this is all over. Because just like when we went to the store when there were lineups and you’d get in the store and the shelves were empty. When everything opens back up, when everything gets going again, it’s those businesses, those entrepreneurs, those high achievers that are prepared that are going to be at the front of the line. And if you’re not preparing, if you’re just waiting, sitting around for things to happen and things to be handed to you, when you get to the front of the line, the shelves are going to be empty. So no more waiting around. I want to show you that 2021 is going to be your BOOM YEAR! And that’s for those that are prepared and ready to take advantage of it.
Jeff Heggie: (05:53) So do you want to know how, what we’re going to do? You’ve heard me talking a lot about my High Achievers Mindset Secrets course. There’s three levels in that course, the Academy is the elite program. It’s the program plus the one-on-one coaching. Well, Achievers, high achievers that want to take advantage of this. I’m going to take that to new level. The cool part about it is I am not going to charge any extra for it. I’m going to do it for the same cost as the Academy program, but at my discretion, I’m going to pick the first five Achievers that want to be a part of this, and no matter where you are right now, if you’re out of a job, if you lost your job, if you lost your business, if you’re uncertain about your future, or if your business is killing it, if everything’s going great and you’re killing it, this is a program that’s going to help you take it to another level.
Jeff Heggie: (06:43) And with these five people, we’re really gonna push it. We’re going to accelerate things, and I’m really going to show you how to finish 2020 strong. And we’re going to make 2021 your Boom Year, and it’s going to be absolutely incredible. So if this is something that you’re interested in, it will be the best program you can get out of this right now, because like I said, the Academy was the top level and I’m going to over-deliver on what that is. So send me a DM or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Put the subject line “2021 Boom!” And we’ll get at it and I’ll get in touch with you. We’ll get on a call, talk about it. I’ll explain what we’re going to include in it and be ready to work. Be ready to rock and roll because it’s going to be awesome, but the results are going to be outstanding. So hopefully I can talk to you as soon and go check out Mindset.JeffHeggie.com And have an awesome day and an awesome weekend. Talk to you soon.

The world held its breath as American gymnast, 16 year old, Mary Lou Retton stood at the end of the mat preparing for her final vault. It was the summer of 1984 and the stakes couldn’t be higher. She had to get a perfect score, a 10, to win the Olympic gold. She closed her eyes for a moment, positioned herself, broke into a full sprint, and nailed a perfect 10 off the pommel horse to clinch the gold medal for herself and Team USA. When she was later asked by a reporter what she was thinking when she closed her eyes before her performance, she told them she saw herself going through every motion precisely, flawlessly, and achieving a perfect score.
In this article I’m going to explore the power of visualization and imagination.
My intent is not just to share these ideas with you. My desire is that after reading this, you will not only know that there is a power in the use of your imagination and visualization, but you will also begin to put these things into practice in your own life as well.
Creating Your Future
Is it possible to pronounce your future and have it come to pass?
Neville Goddard said that “not one thing has appeared in a mans world but what man decreed that it should.”
All that is, all that we have today, was first created in the mind. Airplanes, cars, light bulbs, iPhones all began as a thought before they became reality.
Look around you right now and recognize the amazing things, many which we take for granted, that we have because someone first thought of them.
You too can use your mind to create. But more important than any of those things you just looked at, you can create YOUR future.
Your world is what it is because of your current consciousness. Your thoughts are either your limitation or your path to freedom. The life you are living is the result of your conscious and subconscious being.
In Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill said, “There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge.”
Your mind, thoughts and imagination create your future. It’s up to you whether you unconsciously allow that to happen, or you take charge of those things and in turn take charge of your future.
The Power of Desire
Many failures are the result of an individual’s lack of passion, direction, and aim in life.
Desire is knowing what you want and is a key to success in life.
Stephen Covey taught us to “begin with the end in mind.” When we know what we want and have a desire, we have the end in mind. We know the outcome that we are after.
By using our imagination, visualization and making our desires the dominating thoughts of our mind, our conscious and subconscious go to work to help us to find a way to accomplish our desires.
Napoleon Hill taught that when we set our goals and establish what it is that we truly desire, creating a Definite Chief Aim and following the steps he outlines, it will help you achieve those goals.
He says that “our brains become magnetized with the dominating thoughts which we hold in our minds… these ‘magnets’ attract to us the forces, the people, the circumstances of life which harmonize with the nature of our dominating thoughts.”
He tells us that wishing will not make us achieve our goals. But desiring to achieve our goals with a state of mind that makes it become an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to achieve the goals and backing those plans with persistence which does not recognize failure, will bring the desired results.
He teaches the process of creating a Definite Chief Aim:
Fix in your mind exactly what it is that you desire.
Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for that which you desire.
establish a definite date by which you intend to achieve your desire.
Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.
Write out a clear, concise statement of what you intend to accomplish. Name the time limit for achieving it, state what you intend to give in return for it and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to do it.
Read your written statement aloud, twice daily.
Your Powerful Imagination
Through our imagination, we can become anything that we want to be. It’s the very gateway to reality.
Napoleon Hill said, “If you don’t see great riches in your imagination, you will never see them in your bank balance.”
Ideas are the beginning of all great things. Ideas are products of the imagination.
It has been said in many different ways that man will become what he thinks about. Napoleon Hill said that “Every man is what he is because of the dominating thoughts which he permits to occupy his mind.”
The intent of having your Definite Chief Aim and using visualization is to create your desired future in your mind and have it become your dominating thought until it’s realization.
With that said, it’s your imagination which can create the goals and future that you truly desire.
Putting It Into Practice
In your journey to achieve your goals and to live the life that you desire, time can be well spent dreaming. Intentionally setting time aside to visualize the future you desire is well worth the effort.
In Dare Dream Do, Whitney Johnson says to create a place and time to dream:
Clear the clutter and create a space where you can dream: this space – or spot or place – can be a desk, an office, your car, or your bed
More importantly, create a space in your day: this space – or time – can be early in the morning, after the kids go to school, while exercising, or late at night.
I like to use the time before you fall asleep. From the time you get into bed, until you fall off to sleep. Use that time to vividly visualize your dreams, desires and future.
One of the most powerful lessons that I have learned for this process is from Neville. As we visualize, we need to think FROM the end, rather than think OF the end. Put yourself IN your vision.
He said, “We must use imagination masterfully. Not as an onlooker thinking from the end. But as a partaker, thinking from the end. We must actually be there in imagination. If we do this, our subjective experience will be realized objectively.”
As you visualize your desired future, rather than watching it play out as you would watch a movie, put yourself in the movie and visualize from it, as if you were there.
Adding to the value and purpose of visualizing, Hill said that, “any impulse of thought which is repeatedly passed on to the subconscious mind is, finally, accepted and acted upon by the subconscious mine, which proceeds to translate that impulse into its physical equivalent, by the most practical procedure available…
All thoughts which have been emotionalized (given feeling) and mixed with faith begin immediately to translate themselves into their physical equivalent or counterpart.”
“The future must become the present in the imagination of the one who would wisely and consciously create circumstance” Neville
As we vividly visualize these dreams, our subconscious goes to work to help us make them a reality. Your Reticular Activating System (or RAS) plays a big role in this. You can read more about the function of your RAS in Mindset Questions: The Real Secret to Success.
Whether you’re planning out your long-term future, or an action you are going to be taking soon, this form of visualization is powerful.
In his book, Golf My Way, Jack Nicklaus said, “I never hit a shot, even in practice, without having a very sharp, in-focus picture of it with my head. It’s like a color movie. First I “see” the ball where I want it to finish, nice and white and sitting up high on the bright green grass. Then the scene quickly changes and I “see” the ball going there: its path, trajectory, and shape, even its behavior on landing. Then there’s a sort of fade-out, and the next scene shows me making the kind of swing that will turn the previous images into reality.”
Another valuable practice that I use with my clients is to write out your vivid vision of your goals. For example, rather than thinking about your future dream home, think from your dream home and write as much detail as possible. Imagine walking in the front door and explain what you see. What do you smell? What do you hear? How do you feel being in your dream home? Who is with you? What are you thinking or saying to yourself? Actually experience living in your dream home. That’s the difference of thinking OF your dream home and thinking FROM your dream home.
You can create the future of your dreams. It will take work and effort on your part, but it all begins with your imagination. If you cannot first imagine it, you will never achieve it. The more you imagine and visualize the future you desire, the more it becomes a burning desire which you’ll be able to bring into reality.
I challenge you to visualize from your desired goals before you fall asleep each night for the next 30 days. You may be amazed at the path this new habit takes you down in the process of creating the future of your dreams!
If you are really committed to taking this to the next level, click on the link below!
I’m looking for entrepreneurs, athletes, coaches, and other high achievers who know they’ve got the potential to get to the next level, but just haven’t been able to make it happen yet.
Here’s the TRUTH you need to know about developing a Powerful Mindset.

It’s an established set of attitudes that you hold.
They’re powerful beliefs that have an incredible impact on everything you do.
But they’re just something in your mind, and you can change your mind.
Can your beliefs about yourself impact your success or failure?
Your beliefs not only play a vital role in what you want, but also whether you achieve it.
People with a Fixed Mindset believe that qualities such as intelligence and talent are inborn, fixed and unchangeable.
But those with a Growth Mindset, believe that through commitment and hard work, these abilities can be developed and strengthened
Many parts of our mindset are developed and influenced in our early years by the way we are raised, our life experiences, and things we learn in school.
Children who are taught that they should look smart instead of enjoying to learn, tend to develop a fixed mindset.
They become more concerned with how they are being judged and fear that they might not live up to expectations.
Kids who are taught to explore, embrace new experiences, and enjoy challenges are more likely to develop a growth mindset.
Rather than seeing mistakes as setbacks, they are willing to try new things and make errors all in the process of learning and achieving their potential.
For a growth mindset, a failure doesn’t turn into “I’m a failure.”
Carol S Dweck, PhD of Stanford notes that having a growth mindset doesn’t involve believing that anyone can become anything they want with enough education and effort. Not everyone can become Einstein or Mozart just because they try.
Instead, the growth mindset is about living up to ones possible potential. this potential, however, is never really knowable.
Who knows how far a person can go if they set their mind to it?
People with a growth mindset believe that the effort that goes into learning and deepening their understanding and talents is well worth all the toil and trouble.
Kobe Bryant was a prime example of someone with a Growth Mindset
What I mean by that is if I wanted to implement something new into my game, I’d see it and try incorporating it immediately. I wasn’t scared of missing, looking bad, or being embarrassed. That’s because I always kept the end result, the long game, in my mind. I always focused on the fact that I had to try something to get it, and once I got it, I’d have another tool in my arsenal. If the price was a lot of work and a few missed shots, I was OK with that.
As a kid, I would work tirelessly on adding elements to the game. I would see something I liked in person or on film, go practice it immediately, practice it more the next day, and then go out and use it. By the time I reached the league, I had a short learning curve, I could see something, download it, and have it down pat.
From the beginning I wanted to be the best
I had a constant craving, a yearning, to improve and be the best. I never needed any external forces to motivate me.
During my rookie year, at first, some scouting reports said I wasn’t tough. The first time I went to the basket in games, I’d get hit and the defense would think they had me. I’d come back the very next play and pick up an offensive foul just to send them a message.
I didn’t need that extra push to be great, though. From day one, I wanted to dominate. My mindset was: I’m going to figure you out. Whether it was A.I., Tracy, Vince – or, if I were coming up today, LeBron, Russ, Setph – my goal was to figure you out. And to do that, to figure those puzzles out, I was willing to do way more than anyone else.
Combining Dan’s concepts with Benjamin’s creativity and writing skills has resulted in a book that I highly recommend to entrepreneurs, leaders, or anyone else that wants to get more out of life.
What Are You Trying to Accomplish?
Have you ever looked at someone successful that you admire and wonder how they do it?
Time is finite, they don’t get any more hours in the day than anybody else, but they just seem to be able to get so much more done.
The reason they can accomplish so much and achieve the things that they have is because they’ve embraced Who Not How. They understand that “results, not effort, is the name of the game”.
Save a Few Bucks
The story Benjamin shares of Carl Castledine is one that I think many entrepreneurs will relate to and is a great example of why we need to embrace Who Not How.
Carl was working in a management position that he wasn’t enjoying. So he quit his job and started his own company in the leisure and tourism industry to allow him to have more freedom to create his vision and to help people have incredible vacation experiences.
He started his company, Away Resorts, in 2013 and like most entrepreneurs worked insane hours. Through grit and willpower he was able to build up a decent clientele, but his business growth was less than it could be.
He knew that he needed an online presence and a much better website for the business. So on top of his ridiculous hours he was already working, he began staying up all night learning to code for several months.
As the CEO of his company, he literally spent hundreds of hours learning to code to build websites.
This took its toll. The company was being neglected, he was deprived of sleep, drained, had no energy, and his patience were running thin.
Finally, at a breaking point, he decided to ask a web developer how much it would cost to build a website for him. To his shock, the man said he would happily do it for only £1,200.
Bigger and Better Future
Hardy says, “Whenever you imagine a bigger and better future, there’s a problem. You don’t currently know how to achieve the goal, because it’s bigger and better than your current situation and capabilities.”
“If you are like most people, the first thing you do when you imagine a bigger future is ask yourself: “How do I achieve this goal?”
Asking ‘how’ makes sense, it’s the first thing that comes to mind. It’s what we’ve done and been taught all of our lives.
What if you asked a different question in these situations?
He says, “What if the instant you had a new goal in your mind, rather than procrastinating and feeling frustrated, rather than going through the slow and lonely process of achieving your goals by yourself, you could immediately experience a surge of energy and excitement? What if you could consistently achieve bigger and more powerful results, without having to do all the work? What if you could imagine and accomplish multiple huge goals at once? That’s where Who Not How comes in.”
Who Not How is Truly Simple
Successful entrepreneurs and high achievers get more done because they don’t do it all themselves. Rather than automatically asking, “How do I achieve this goal?” they ask, “Who can help me achieve this?”
Who Not How is about focusing on the things that you enjoy and do well, and finding the Whos that will handle the rest. The bigger your goals, the better your Whos need to be.
This is a powerful concept for a leader to embrace. Hardy says, “That’s what real leadership is: Creating and clarifying the vision (the “what”) and giving the vision greater context and importance (the “why”) for all Whos involved. Once the “what” and “why” have clearly been established, the specified “who” or “whos” have all they need to go about executing the “how.” All the leader needs to do at that point is support and encourage the Who(s) through the process.”
To be successful with this, you have to give your Who ownership of the “How.” To get their greatest work, you’ll have to relinquish control over how things get done.
Hardy says, “one of the biggest mistakes entrepreneurs and leaders make: micromanaging their Whos and insisting that they do their jobs in a particular way, when the only thing that matters is the end result. Once success has been defined, retrain yourself from needing to know or care “How” it gets done. Your only concern should be that it gets done.”
Create the vision. Communicate what success looks like. Let them do their job.
Letting go or taking on a task because you can do it better or quicker than if you try to spend the time to get someone else to do it. But once you can get past this mindset, the growth you can create is unlimited.

Every Monday on my podcast, Daily Success Strategies, I tell my listeners that they need to set their week up for success. They have to determine what they need to accomplish throughout the week so that on Friday, once they’ve achieved everything they set out to do, they can look back and know that they had a successful week. I also encourage them to make sure that what it is they are working on will help get them closer to their bigger goals.
Once they have their plans figured out and they know what they need to accomplish to make it a successful week, the next step is to plan it out. Once the goal is set, a plan of action needs to be put into place. This will include scheduling everything from their block time, to their important meetings and events, coaching, or anything else they will need to do to have a successful and productive week.
I love to hear from my listeners as they set themselves accountable and share their plans with me. I also love to hear back from them at the end of the week when they let me know if they had a successful week and achieved everything they set out to do.
This past week someone shared with me a problem that they encountered. It was actually a challenge that happens often. Being prepared for an obstacle before it happens is important because it allows you to handle it best and respond rather than react to the situation.
This individual has been following me for quite a while and has implemented many of my ideas and strategies into their daily life. She told me that it has brought much more clarity, focus, and productivity into her life. She finally is feeling as though she’s on the road to achieve her dreams.
Since she started following my practice of setting up her week for success and blocking her time, her productivity has gone through the roof. She’s getting a lot more done each week and she’s marching closer and closer to her goals.
But this past week was different. Each week she’s felt as though she was building more and more momentum and things were just flowing well. So she expected this past week to be the same. She made clear and definite plans for the week and committed to making it all happen. But part way through the week she was faced with a number of completely unexpected circumstances that completely threw off her plans. It was like a domino effect and everything else just seemed to fall apart.
Not only did she not accomplish her goals for the week, she was seriously side tracked and took a big step backwards.
In retrospect, she says that it wasn’t as big of a problem as she made it out to be. But the problem was that it wasn’t in her plans. She got frustrated as her schedule and plans fell apart and she basically let everything crash around her for the remainder of the week.
Following is the analogy I shared with her to help her move forward.
Your Life is a Flight Plan
If you really want to find success in life, think of your journey as a flight plan.
Think about taking a trip across country in an airplane. The plane leaves at a specific time, with plans to land in a specific place at a predetermined time. However, through the course of that trip, the plane is actually off course over 90% of the time. But the pilot, technology, and avionics continually are bringing the plane back onto its course so that it will arrive at it’s destination on time.
In life, you’re the pilot. Throughout your trip you are going to face unexpected turbulence and it’s your job to get back on track.
I’m going to discuss four strategies that will help you to set off on your journey and to make the necessary adjustments when necessary so that the entire trip isn’t ruined when a problem occurs.
Set Goals – Establish Your Flight Plan
Whether you are looking at your plans for the day, the week, the year, or the next ten years, you need to establish your goals, or your flight plan.
Most people today put more thought and planning into their next trip to the grocery store than they do for their goals, dreams and direction they want to take their life in the future.
Establishing clear and definite goals in life is vital.
If you wanted to travel to Hawaii on vacation, how important is it for the pilot to have clear and defined goals?
Would you be ok showing up at the airport and getting on the first plane you saw, hoping that it would end up in Hawaii? What if the pilots plan was to take off, once in the air they would determine how much fuel was in the plane, and then decide which direction she would go?
You’re not going to get on that plane if neither you nor the pilot have clear and defined goals, so why don’t you do the same thing with your life?
If you don’t have clear and defined goals for your life right now, you need to take my free Momentum Series training immediately! You can find it here.
Start Working Towards Your Goals – Take Off Towards Your Destination
Once your plans are in place, you need to take action. I’ve seen many people never achieve their dreams because of paralysis by analysis. Many never start because they don’t believe in themselves.
In order to achieve your goals, you have to be willing to start working towards them with no guarantee of success.
Courage is often portrayed as a person feeling absolutely certain about taking action in a situation, but that isn’t courage – that’s confidence.
Confidence doesn’t come until you’ve earned it by going through courage first.
This is a reality that most entrepreneurs and high achievers face on a regular basis. You have to be willing to take action despite not feeling certain, not feeling things are right, and certainly not feeling confident.
But we know that if the plane never takes off and leaves the airport, it will never reach its final destination.
Setting a goal won’t achieve it for you. You have to start working towards it.
The more often you take courageous action and step out of your comfort zone, the more your comfort zone expands and your confidence continues to grow exponentially.
It’s important to keep your focus on your clearly defined goals. But it’s also important to be flexible in how you achieve them.
Just like the pilot, you have to learn to adjust throughout your flight.
When you hit turbulence or anything unexpected that throws you off course, you need to learn from it and get back on course as quick as you can.
When things go wrong and you have to make a course correction, it’s important to keep your mind fixed on your clearly defined goal and the reason you are working towards it.
When you keep a positive mindset, you will often recognize that each obstacle will also bring with it a new opportunity. So when things seem to be going wrong, keep this thought in mind, “life is happening for me rather than to me.” When you see every obstacle as a blessing of some sort, you’ll be able to respond and get back on course much easier.
No matter how many times you have to course correct, decide in advance that you will never give up. By learning, adjusting, and continuing on with hard work and determination, you will achieve your goals.
In my Inner Circle Mastermind, we are currently reading the book, Think and Grow Rich as a group. We recently studied Chapter 9: Persistence. Napoleon Hill said, “without persistence you will be defeated, even before you start. With persistence you will win.”
When you decide in advance that you are willing to course correct when things get off course, it’s easier to stay positive and motivated to continue on when you face challenges.
You are the pilot of your life. Decide on your destination, make clear and definite plans to get there, take off, and be open to making changes along the way until you reach your destination.

If you want your team to perform consistently at a high level, make each other better, or even if you just want them to stay confident through adversity, then this is the most important letter you’ll read all year!

“One of the most underrated factors of success is knowing how & where to find help. True & lasting success can only happen when you have people helping you along the way… This is why finding the right mentor, community, and team is so vital. I found all three in Jeff”
My name is Jeff Heggie and I’m a Success Coach with an expertise in helping to create a Powerful Mindset in high achievers.
My experience as an entrepreneur and business leader over the past twenty years, combined with my experience and research as a business coach has given me the opportunity to learn and observe the importance of developing a powerful mindset. As important as this has been in business, over the past 20 years as a basketball coach I’ve also seen firsthand the impact it has on athletes.
This training will ensure that your team is mentally strong as they deal with the challenges 2020 has thrown at them, along with the challenges and expectations of being a student athlete, and have the mindset needed to perform their best as a team.
Every minute you wait is another minute that one of your potential all-stars continues to fight the demons in their head telling them to give up.
Studies show that up to 35% of Elite Athletes suffer from a mental health crisis.
In the Mindful Athlete, George Mumford says, “the real key to high performance and tapping into flow is the ability to direct and channel these strengths and skills fully in the present moment – and that starts in your mind. The flip side of this equation is also true. No matter how strong or skillful you might be, your mind can also impede that talent from being expressed, and it often does so in insidious ways if you don’t take care of it.”
When your athletes all have a Powerful Mindset and Clear Goals, imagine what they will be capable of…
When they have a Powerful Mindset, you can focus on your job of making your team better.
You’ll see the relationships on your team strengthen.
So Here’s The Bottom Line With High Achievers Mindset Secrets Academy
You’ll get the six weeks of training for your team along with other resources I’ll supply to strengthen their mindset and confidence. During those six weeks your team will get live training sessions with me every second week, where I can dive deeper into topics and how to specifically implement them with your team.
