As I’ve always said, this blog is about my life as a father and husband and not only business. So this post is more related to the things I really love, my family and supporting them in what they do.
Our family really enjoys this time of year. The kids are back in full swing of basketball mode and we are doing our best to follow them around to get to all their events. All of my kids are attending American Leadership Academy in Queen Creek, Arizona. Daxon’s season has just got underway (8th grade) and they are 1-1. I’ll have some game tape for him that I’ll share soon.
I have the opportunity to help coach Tia’s team. She’s a junior this year and has started out strong. Her stats can be tracked on MaxPreps HERE
This past weekend we played in the Holiday Hoops women’s Basketball Tournament in Phoenix and Tia was named to the All Tournament All-Star Team. Our first game was probably her best where she had 29 points, she was 7 for 9 from behind the three point line, had 16 rebounds and 8 steals.
It’s going to be a fun year watching both Tia and Daxon, we are really looking forward to it!
The header of my blog says, The Life of a Father, Husband and Entrepreneur. I use that because my post may jump around a bit. I enjoy writing about the business side of life but the father and husband part of my life are by far the most important to me. That’s why one of my categories is Heggie Life. This is the category that is more focused on family and events than business.
I enjoy the fact that we do a lot together as a family and when one person in our family has an opportunity to do something we can usually find a way to make it a family event. My kids are active and involved in a lot of things. My oldest two, Tia and Daxon, are the most active and I love following them around.
We recently moved from Alberta, Canada to Queen Creek, Arizona for business reasons. My daughter had a basketball coach a few years ago at the Michael Jordan Flight School basketball camp that heard we had moved and he invited her to come to California to play on his basketball team, the Candace Parker GBL Rebels, for the West Coast Fall Exposure Tournament.
It turned out to be a great weekend for the whole family. We were able to spend a day at Corona del Mar, Newport Beach and then two days in the gym watching Tia play basketball.
School basketball will be starting soon for Tia and Daxon. They attend American Leadership Academy in Queen Creek, CAN’T WAIT!
Looking forward to another summer of basketball with Tia playing for Basketball Alberta.
Team Alberta will be playing at the NIKE End of the Trail basketball tournament in Oregon City OR from July 5-8. From there they will head to Langley BC for some exhibition games. They will cap off the year at the Canadian National Championships in Regina SK from July 24-31.
It was another fun summer following Tia around with her basketball. Unfortunately she suffered an early spring broken leg that slowed her down for a while but she healed up and finished strong. She played on the University of Lethbridge PEBL team in the spring and the U16 Basketball Alberta team during the summer.
Now it’s time for an exciting season of volleyball for Tia and football for Daxon!
We had the opportunity to spend the last week in Wood Buffalo (Fort McMurray) Alberta at the Western Canadian Summer Games. The organizers of the event did a great job. Each event was well organized and the facilities were great. The opening ceremonies were great to watch!
The purpose for us to be at the games was to watch our daughter, Tia Heggie, play with the U16 Basketball Alberta women’s team. We are very proud of Tia and her team. They fought through some tough games and finished fourth overall.
These are some highlights of Tia in her first three games
Tia and her team had a great season of basketball in 2014/2015. Tia was the point guard of the team and is looking forward to entering high school next year to play at the next level. This summer she is playing for Basketball Alberta again on the U16 Girls team. They will be playing in the Seattle Summer Showcase from July 10-12, 2015 and then will be headed north to Langley BC for some exhibition games. After these games their next big event is the Western Canadian Summer Games in Wood Buffalo AB that begin on August 7.
This is a highlight video of Tia with her Grade 9 Cardston Cougar Team.
This spring Tia also made the University of Lethbridge PEBL (Prairie Elite Basketball League) U17 team. Unfortunately during their first tournament at the University of Alberta she broke a bone in her leg and didn’t get to play the entire season. But this video shows some highlights from her first couple games at the UofA tournament. She’s excited to be healed up and ready for Alberta Ball now. (She is #3 on the blue and white team)
My greatest love is my family. Along with that, something else I love is basketball. Fortunately, I have the opportunity that I can enjoy both of them together quite often. My son, Daxon, just started organized basketball and I am able to spend some quality time with him in that setting. My oldest daughter, Tia, caught the basketball bug a while ago. She’s only in the eighth grade right now, but I have had the opportunity to be involved with coaching her for four years now, whether it has been in the club ball setting or the school setting.
Over the past few days I’ve been able to see where Tia’s love and dedication to the game have brought her. She made the final cut that qualified her to tryout for Team Alberta this weekend and I am very proud that she made the team. The coaching staff and the team are great. This is another opportunity for her to push herself and take her skills to another level.
