Leveraged Learning – How the Disruption of Education Helps Lifelong Learners and Experts with Something to Teach

hard-cover-book-10

Most people think the problem with college is the cost of tuition and an overflow of graduates into the workforce.

Those are problems, but that’s only half the story.

The real problem, as the former president of Harvard, Lawrence Summers admits: “Anything you learn is going to become obsolete within a decade.”

That’s why education is facing a major disruption, and where the opportunity for experts comes in.

As my friend Danny Iny points out in his new book, Leveraged Learning (which is FREE to read online in its entirety right here), the future of education will focus on lifelong learning.

It’s the only way to stay up to date in our changing world.

People are now learning more often, and in spurts, to fill holes in their skillset as needed. They’re choosing to learn just enough, at just the right time, and they spread their learning over the course of a lifetime instead of condensing it into the college experience.

However, mainstream education hasn’t yet caught up to that shift.

There’s a huge gap between what people want and what our education system offers.

So experts and professionals are being called upon to fill the gaps.

Experts are teaching office workers how to use new software and technologies (fast)…

…developers how to work with new code…

…managers how to interact with a changing workforce…

…marketers how to use new platforms.

And it goes beyond the professional world. People are turning to online education for their personal needs too:

Exerts are teaching new homeowners how to do modern decorations on a budget…

…fitness enthusiasts how to follow the latest and most effective exercise and diet trends…

…parents how to connect with their pop-culture obsessed kids…

…travelers how to get the most out of their trip.

At Kodiak Mountain Stone we teach the do-it-yourselfer’s how to install their own manufactured stone veneer!

People are thirsty to learn specific skills that fill specific needs. And they want results – soothing higher education typically doesn’t provide.

So if you’re an expert with something to teach, you have a massive business opportunity sitting right in front of you to create training programs that get people results.

And you’ll definitely want to go read Danny’s book (available FREE online, right now). He covers just how big the opportunity is…

…and how to strike while the iron’s hot!

Tia Heggie Basketball – Senior Year

Proud of how Tia played in her senior year of basketball and I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had to coach her.

She was just recently awarded the Regional Offensive Player of the Year and named to the All-Region 1st Team. Hopefully later in the month she will also be recognized at the State level.

Quote

Whatever your brand stands for, you have to deliver on the promise.  Don’t promise what you can’t deliver, and deliver everything you promise.  That’s the only way you’ll ever control your brand.  And beware: brands always mean something.  If you don’t define what the brand means, a competitor will.

Summer of Basketball 2017

One more day and our kids wrap up their first year of school living in Arizona. The move has been great for our family. The kids are experiencing so much and are loving it. Once again as we look forward to summer, it is going to be jammed packed.
Daxon is going to be extremely busy with both football and basketball as he prepares to enter high school. Tia is finishing her junior year and preparing to be a senior. With all she has worked towards in basketball over the years, this summer is going to be one of the most important in determining where she will go on to play after high school.
We live in Arizona, but decided that the best thing for her to do this summer is play for a team she was invited to join that is based out of Los Angelas. The team is the GBL Candace Parker National team. This team is very well coached and their focus is to get their players in front of the college coaches to give them the opportunities to earn a scholarship.
As soon as school ball ended the focus turned to GBL. So we have made a lot of trips from Arizona to California on the weekends for practice and games. GBL is an Adidas sponsored team and follows the Adidas Gauntlet tournaments, in addition to a number of other tournaments. So far they have had the Phoenix Adidas Gauntlet tournament, the US Junior Nationals (USJN) in Irvine CA  and another tournament last week in San Diego.
Their upcoming tournaments are:
June 3-4 Swift Hawaiian Classic in Corona CA

June 17-18 GBL Hosted DII, DIII Viewing Event

July 6-8 Cal Storm Tournament

July 10-12 Adidas Gauntlet Finale – Dallas TX

July 23-25 Brandon Clay’s Peachtree – Atlanta

July 27-29 Adidas Nationals – Atlanta

It has been fun to watch the process as college coaches have been reaching out to her. She has been invited to a number of Elite Camps where the coaches can evaluate her. The challenge has been trying to schedule all of these camps and know which ones to prioritize by how serious the coaches are.  Tia has worked hard to get to where she is basketball. She has also worked hard to keep a 4.0 GPA. I’m confident that all of this hard work will pay off and she will have the opportunity to go on to play at a great school where she can also get a great education.

This video is Tia’s most recent highlight tape comprised of some of her final high school games plus the Phoenix Adidas Gauntlet and US Junior Nationals.
