Are You Staying Relevant?

The level of competition amongst individuals and companies is at an all time high. In a world that is changing so fast, how do you keep up? How do you get ahead?

You absolutely have to continue learning and gaining knowledge, it’s critical. If you do not continue to learn you will fall behind and you become less relevant.

“If you don’t like change, you’re going to like irrelevance even less.”

Eric Shinseki (US Army General, Chief of Staff of the Army, US Secretary of Veterans Affairs)

It doesn’t matter if you graduated with a degree at the top of your class or you never went to college, continuous learning isn’t an option, it’s an absolute must.

I recently heard Stephen M.R. Covey say, “For years people have recognized the value of a four year degree. But to be relevant in today’s economy you really need a 40 year degree. In other words, you need to be engaged in life long learning.”

Napoleon Hill said, “The person who stops studying merely because he has finished school is forever hopelessly doomed to mediocrity, no matter what may be his calling. The way of success is the way of continuous pursuit of knowledge.”

Recognizing the value and importance of self-education in today’s world, Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi developed a program called the Knowledge Business Blueprint, or KBB (Note: click HERE for information on KBB 2.0 being released in February, 2020). Tony and Dean both attribute the power of self-education as their pathway out of their circumstances they were in growing up, to where they are now.

As things continue to change and advance in our world at a dizzying pace along with the competition for customers and the competition for positions within businesses, we all have to be finding ways to earn our spot. Success does not guarantee success in the future. Do what you need to do to stay relevant. Do what you need to do to stay ahead of your competition, because if you are not, they are doing what they need to do to get ahead of you, and they will do it.

Self-education is the new norm!

Daxon Heggie 2018/19 Sophomore Basketball Highlights

Another season of basketball has gone by in a flash. My son, Daxon, played for American Leadership Academy in Queen Creek, Arizona. He had a good season and grew as a player. I’m looking forward to watching him develop more over the coming years. His dedication and work ethic are going to open up opportunities.

Tia Heggie Basketball – Senior Year

Proud of how Tia played in her senior year of basketball and I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had to coach her.

She was just recently awarded the Regional Offensive Player of the Year and named to the All-Region 1st Team. Hopefully later in the month she will also be recognized at the State level.

Book Quote of the Week 036

Quote

Whatever your brand stands for, you have to deliver on the promise.  Don’t promise what you can’t deliver, and deliver everything you promise.  That’s the only way you’ll ever control your brand.  And beware: brands always mean something.  If you don’t define what the brand means, a competitor will.

Summer of Basketball 2017

One more day and our kids wrap up their first year of school living in Arizona. The move has been great for our family. The kids are experiencing so much and are loving it. Once again as we look forward to summer, it is going to be jammed packed.
Daxon is going to be extremely busy with both football and basketball as he prepares to enter high school. Tia is finishing her junior year and preparing to be a senior. With all she has worked towards in basketball over the years, this summer is going to be one of the most important in determining where she will go on to play after high school.
We live in Arizona, but decided that the best thing for her to do this summer is play for a team she was invited to join that is based out of Los Angelas. The team is the GBL Candace Parker National team. This team is very well coached and their focus is to get their players in front of the college coaches to give them the opportunities to earn a scholarship.
As soon as school ball ended the focus turned to GBL. So we have made a lot of trips from Arizona to California on the weekends for practice and games. GBL is an Adidas sponsored team and follows the Adidas Gauntlet tournaments, in addition to a number of other tournaments. So far they have had the Phoenix Adidas Gauntlet tournament, the US Junior Nationals (USJN) in Irvine CA  and another tournament last week in San Diego.
Their upcoming tournaments are:
June 3-4 Swift Hawaiian Classic in Corona CA

June 17-18 GBL Hosted DII, DIII Viewing Event

July 6-8 Cal Storm Tournament

July 10-12 Adidas Gauntlet Finale – Dallas TX

July 23-25 Brandon Clay’s Peachtree – Atlanta

July 27-29 Adidas Nationals – Atlanta

It has been fun to watch the process as college coaches have been reaching out to her. She has been invited to a number of Elite Camps where the coaches can evaluate her. The challenge has been trying to schedule all of these camps and know which ones to prioritize by how serious the coaches are.  Tia has worked hard to get to where she is basketball. She has also worked hard to keep a 4.0 GPA. I’m confident that all of this hard work will pay off and she will have the opportunity to go on to play at a great school where she can also get a great education.

This video is Tia’s most recent highlight tape comprised of some of her final high school games plus the Phoenix Adidas Gauntlet and US Junior Nationals.
